The Barcoo Independent

The Barcoo Independent, based in Blackall, central west Queensland, needs a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Journalist/Editor. Published weekly, The Barcoo Independent, is one of Australia's last locally owned newspapers, generating unique and relevant content..

Under the direction of the publisher (Blackall Newspaper Group Inc.) you will become The Barcoo Independent's driving force. Your duties will include all aspects of newsgathering, including interviewing, writing stories and photographing.

You will also be responsible for the layout of the newspaper, sourcing advertising and managing the weekly printing, distribution and subscription.

Experience using InDesign and Photoshop is highly advantageous, as well as Facebook and the ability to update and maintain the paper's website on a weekly basis.

The right applicant will be passionate about news, community and the people who live here, and be capable of investigating stories and writing compelling articles and in-depth reports. An ability to form connections within the community and effectively managing your time is essential.

A love of community is a must! In return you will be awarded threefold with full time employment, six weeks annual leave on a set salary. You will quickly become a valued member of the community.

Blackall is located in the middle of Queensland, approximately 1000 km north-west of Brisbane.
